The University of South Alabama has a Faculty Senate Environmental Quality Committee that looks into recycling, the use of resources on campus, and construction initiatives.
The university has not made public any steps taken to address energy efficiency or conservation possibilities, and has not made headway toward the use of renewable energy.
The university supports a local dairy and purchases organic fruits and vegetables when feasible. Dining services provides a discount for the use of reusable containers and is trying to implement a similar program for reusable cups. This year, a trayless dining initiative will aim to save water, electricity, and gas. The Faculty Senate Environmental Quality Committee has worked to improve the recycling program, but recycling depends on the maintenance staff in each building.
