The college adheres to the Los Angeles Community College District's sustainable design standards. The district is working to develop a green purchasing policy. Only recyclable furniture is purchased through the LACCD Furniture Value Program, and the college adheres to the district's carpet purchasing policies, which aim to minimize VOC emissions and require that all old carpet be recycled. The district's chancellor signed the Presidents' Climate Commitment in 2007.
The college has completed a greenhouse gas emissions inventory and has a solar hot water system.

The Los Angeles Community College District’s $6.1 billion Sustainable Building Program is providing Los Angeles Trade-Technical College with $611 million to renovate and modernize its facilities. Following its board-mandated sustainable building policy, which states that all new buildings meet LEED certification standards, the college has completed one LEED-certified building and has two new green buildings under construction. The college has performed lighting upgrades and installed motion sensors as well as LED lighting. Water-saving fixtures include low-flow faucets and showerheads, waterless urinals, and dual-flush toilets. The campus has also used drought-tolerant landscaping throughout campus.
The college participates in RecycleMania. There are no known active student groups related to sustainability.
Students enrolled full time at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College are eligible to participate in the district’s subsidized transit pass program, through which they receive a six-month Metro pass for $15, representing a discount of 40 percent. Additionally, the college’s master plan provides pedestrian-friendly space, and improved pedestrian connections are planned to connect with transit services.
