With the publication of the College Sustainability Report Card 2010, more than 1,100 school survey responses from over 300 institutions are now available online. In total, these surveys offer more than 10,000 pages of data collected from colleges and universities during the summer of 2009 . STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
1) Please describe the student-run campus environmental/sustainability organization in which you have a leadership role.

Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008:

  • Off-campus recycling project: to begin recycling programs at student apartments.
  • Biodiesel project: to install a system to refine used cooking oil from dining halls into biodiesel, which would be used to fuel the Miami University bus system.
  • Focus the Nation: A campus-wide teach in concerning environmental issues.  This year's focus was on sustainable business.
  • Bike Lanes Project: Members have submitted a proposal the Oxford City Council to have bike lanes installed on Oxford roads.

Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008:

  • Off-campus recycling project: A pilot program is underway, but an effort is underway to begin recycling programs at other apartments.
  • Biodiesel project: A proposal has been submitted, grant opportunities are currently being explored to help match initial capital costs.
  • Focus the Nation:  The teach-in was well attended, and will continue to be an annual event.
  • Bike Lanes Project: While the project has met resistance, we will continue to advocate Oxford bike lanes.

SUSTAINABILITY IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT
3) Does your student government include a specific position or committee dedicated to campus sustainability issues?

[X]  Yes. Please describe: We have an aptly titled Sustainability Committee in our Associated Student Government.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
4) Please describe any additional campus sustainability activities or projects that you or your group has initiated at your school:  

  • Earth Day 5K: We organize an annual 5K to raise awareness for environmental issues an to support a local conservation trust.
  • EarthFest: Green Oxford contributes to the success of an annual community event that promotes sustainability.
  • Field Trips:  Green Oxford regularly organizes trips to recycling facilities, coal plants, and other places of interest.
  • Powervote/Powershift: Green Oxford sponsors a group of students to attend nationwide sustainability events.
