STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
1) Please describe the student-run campus environmental/sustainability organization in which you have a leadership role.
Name of organization:
Rice Student Green Building Initiative (RSGBI)
Number of active members: 10
Website:
Date of last meeting: March 2009
Frequency of meetings: About once a month
Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008:
Professional accreditation in LEED issues:  RSGBI implemented a LEED Accreditation training course in the Spring semester to help students gain relevant knowledge in passing the LEED Accreditation NC-2.2 exam.  We also subsidize students half the cost of taking and passing the exam.
Student awareness of green buildings on campus: RSGBI has organized several site visits of campus buildings since August 2008, so that students become more aware of progress our school is making towards sustainable architecture and also for students to have personal experience seeing sustainable design principles at work.  We also helped other volunteer organizations on campus to organize site visits for them.
Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008:
4 students have passed the exam this semester, and a few more will be taking the exam soon.
Site visits really helped students (especially architecture and engineering students) know the materials and processes involved in sustainable design.
